What is Marine Academy


is one of the 12 branches of

World Maritime University, Malmö, Sweden

Marine academy, having an excellent prestigious past of four decades, has achieved the requisite professional status by being a branch of world maritime University in 1990 and through the inclusion of Bangladesh in the White List of the international Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2000. Therefore the coveted international status of this Academy with the STCW 95 international convention for all levels of maritime education. Undoubtedly, Marine academy is a unique institution in South Asia and know for its maritime excellence. Above all, Bangladesh Marine Academy is committed to world class maritime manpower development.

Requirements for Admission

Section of the cadets is made through five stages;

  • Written examination

  • physical fitness and swimming test

  • Interviews

  • Special eye sight and color vision test

  • Medical Examination
  • Minimum Educational Qualification :

    Candidates must possess following minimum academic qualifications to apply : Secondary School Certificates (S.S.C) or its equivalent or "O" level: Minimum 2nd Division or GPA 2.50. Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C) or its equivalent or "A" level : Minimum 2nd Division ro GPA 2.50 (With Physics & (Mathematics).

    However, Candidates having mathematics as fourth subject and securing minimum 33% marks in the same in the H.S.C Examination are also eligible to apply. Students appearing/appeared in the H.S.C Examination during the year of entry may also provisionally apply. Interviews generally take place in the month of December/January.

    Age limit:

    Candidates must not be more than 21 Years of age on 31st December of the year of applications. The only date of birth recognized is what is recorded in the candidate's S.S.C or equivalent examination certificate. Increasing/Decreasing age limit through affidavit or by any other means is not acceptable for the purpose of admission in this Academy.

    Nationality & Marital Status :

    Candidates must be nationals of Bangladesh by birth or domicile as per current law of Bangladesh duly certified by the Deputy Commissioner or a class 1 officer of the District in which the candidate is a permanent resident and must be unmarried.

    Physical, Eye-sight and Color Vision fitness :

    Candidates applying for Nautical Branch must have a prefect eye sight and colour Vision and will be subjected to most rigorous tests under the Mercantile Marine Department, Chittagong . Candidates applying for Engineering Branch must also possess minimum prescribed standards of eye sight and colour vision.

    Swimming :

    A candidates must know swimming. To qualify in a Standard Swimming Test ; candidate must be able to swim across a minimum distance of 60 meters in free style and keep himself afloat on the surface of water for at least 3(three) minutes. Informatively the Academy Swimming pool is of length 30 metres, breadth 10 metres and depth 1 metres to 3.5 metres. Any candidates failing to qualify in the "Standard Swimming Test" shall be disqualified. No appeal against this disqualification shall be entertained.

    Submission of Applications :

    Candidates, eligible in all respects, should fill the prescribed preliminary Application Form carefully as per instruction and sent the same well in advance, alongwith necessary certificates/testimonials, directly to :The Commandant, Marine Academy, Chittagong-4206 by registered post with acknowledgement due so as to reach Academy before the expiry of the last date, mentioned in the application form. After this date no application shall be entertained whatever may be the cause of delay.

    Candidates must also send a self addressed envelop (25cm x 10cm) with postal stamps of Tk. 6.00 affixed, in which their admit cards will be dent by registered post. The Academy, however, does not accept any responsibility in respect of misdelivery. or non-delivery/ or late delivery of any letter by the postal Department. Ineligible candidates are strictly advised not to submit their applications, as all such applications shall be summarily rejected.

    Preparetion for Written Exam

    Written test is composed of 3 subjects

    Physics-100 marks

    Mathemetics-100 marks

    English-100 marks

    Each exam has time limit of 1 hour seperately. Syllabus is the same as HSC board curriculam of science.

    Physics and Math exams are mainly numerical problems whereas English is pure grammatical.

    Marine written exam is very easy, but need some clear concepts on topics. So we give clear and deep concepts of all topics to the students in class with theoritical and numerical examples.

    Preparation for VIVA

    Though written exam is the main criteria of selection, but medical and viva exam also play vital role.
    Viva is of 100 marks. Main reason of viva is to verbal test. Those who will be disqualified in medical and swimming exam they will not be considered. Final result will be composed out of 400 marks(300 from written and 100 from viva).

    We will conduct demo viva after written exam by various Marine Engineers and Officers who have successfully passed from Marine Academy Bangladesh and now working on foreign merchant ships.

    MARINE CAMPUS PROVIDING THE BEST GUIDE LINE

    We provide classes according to importence. We do not schedule classes such as 3 chapters per day. We schedule classes according to vastness and depth of individual topics. For example we have some days when we cover 1 chapter in a day. It also may be 2 chapter a day.

    We do not conduct a class room with more than 30 students. So teachers can give his full support to each student.
    There will be no interaction of class schedule or delay or rejection of weekly exam for our inability or casuality.
    Our teachers are highly experienced in taking classes in various coaching centers. All of them are from BUET and most of them got chance in Marine Academy Bangladesh.

    We will conduct weekly exam on a fixed day in a week.
